During an attempt at upgrading my pc from Ryzen 7 3800X to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, I ran into a real screwy situation and I'm hoping that someone might have an idea about what the problem could be. Of course, any help at all is better than no help and will, of course, be greatly appreciated. On to the story. Currently system: Mobo: Asus Rog Strix B550-F Gaming CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 4000MHz (4 x 8) 32Gig. GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT (12Gig) SSD-0: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB SSD-1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB Attempted Upgrades Mobo Asus Rog Strix B650E-F Gaming CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 32) 64Gig. GPU: NO CHANGE Will continue to use the Radeon RX 6750 XT Storage drives will remain the same with NO changes. I play World of Warcraft (WoW) and have played the game since it first became available. Years. I have not had any problems with my computer system in all these years that I haven't been able to fix so this problem really has me stumped. Take it for granted the game played fine before attempting the upgrade. Made the changes and the game would not play. What it does do is open up with a full, black, screen. If I mouse click on the black screen, it will change to an all white screen. It will remain with the all white screen until I mouse click at which point it will respond with the option of either waiting for the program to respond or click to close the program. If I choose to wait, then it will wait until hell freezes over and not before. Doesn't matter how long the wait. If I choose to close the program, then that's it. BANG! Program closes, the end. The trick is that if I change out the 6750xt (12 gig) for the AMD Radeon RX 590 (8 gig), then the game will play fine. I have completely wiped the SSD and reinstalled Windows 11 making sure to get all the updates from the Microsoft update website. After Windows is completely installed, then I downloaded and installed all the drivers for all the hardware in my machine, including the video card, mouse, keyboard, and printer. All done. Once all the drivers are installed then I installed the game. I have gone thru this process at least 6 times, COMPLETELY. If I use the 6750, the game will lock up the machine with the black and white screens. If I take out the 6750 and replace it with the 590, then the game will run fine without any problems. I was using the 6750 before the upgrade but now it only screws up and won't play the game. I have made the swap back and forth so much that I can basically do it in the dark with the lights out wearing sun glasses. I'm hoping that someone has an idea that I haven't come up with that hopefully will allow me to play the game on my 6750. Thanks to all that take the time to read my post. Take care and good luck.

Have you experimented with changing from DX12 to DX11 or DX 11 Legacy in the graphics options? DX12 didn’t work for you.

The system is using DX12. It seems this wasn’t the issue before the big change; I was using Win11Pro prior to the problems. Now I’m back with the old hardware—B550F-F motherboard and 6750XT—yet the game won’t run. I’m frustrated and my wife is getting upset because of all the effort I’ve put into trying to fix it.

I verified the identical problem with the 6800XT, attributing it to DX12.

It worked smoothly on Classic WoTLK compared to DX12 in retail WoW. I noticed Metro Exodus also had issues with DX12 on my old GPU, but DX11 was fine. Thanks for sharing—I’m glad I could assist and clarify the fix. Enjoy gaming!

You're really glad I could assist! WoW has been my favorite game, and fixing the settings was surprisingly straightforward. It’s amazing how something so simple can make such a difference. Thanks again for your support—no one would’ve thought it was an issue with DX settings otherwise. Take care and good luck!
