I am curious. I am still on the hunt for a motherboard and I had been avoiding x570 due to the fan. However I realize it's probably the best choice, seeing as I already have a 2700x and want to upgrade to 4th gen ryzen when it comes out. The alternative would be going b550, grabbing a 3600 and flipping my 2700x. However that's more hassle and will probably make the performance gain of a 4600 less appealing going from a 3600 to 4600 instead of a 2700x to 4600. I just really dislike having a small fan in my system. Hoping it can be turned off or curve changed to such a degree that it'll be off all the time except if I use a pcie 4.0 device (which I won't be).
You can turn the fan off manually, and a few users report their setup remains functional. However, this might impact the chipset's long-term performance.
Typically most x570 models with fans won't operate at all under regular conditions. If they do start up, it usually indicates an issue with the overall airflow within the unit.
The chipset fan can be adjusted using a fan curve and is typically set to a "Silent" mode by default. The criticism about the X570 chipset fan being excessive is exaggerated. It rarely activates, serving mainly as a protective feature since these boards can draw significant power, though this situation doesn't usually occur in real use.
It might not power up at all. The component exists for compliance reasons, yet it becomes a problem when the chipset overheats and requires it.
