Windows patches continue to encounter failure code 0x800f0922
I keep trying to install the following two updates: KB5037591 and KB5037771. I'll update, then reboot, it looks like it's installing, then reboots and says theres an issue and is undoing the update. When I get back into Windows, those two updates failed with error 0x800f0922. I've reset Windows update, sfc /scannow, DISM commands. Theres the button that says to reinstall Windows, but what exactly does that do? EDIT: Was able to install one of the updates: So it's KB5037771 thats causing the problem.
It seems your Windows installation encountered issues due to a small partition. You may need to adjust the partition size manually. This problem has been addressed before, with guidance available in KB5028997.
The issue seems linked to KB5037771, requiring a RE partition over 600MB while Windows limits it to 500MB. I resolved it recently using AOMEI Partition Assistant by shrinking another partition to free up space for the RE one. Microsoft seems to have overlooked this problem since the release.
They asked you to make the file smaller before proceeding, then mentioned setting up a fresh one. I attempted to download a partition manager, but it reported the recovery partition as 738MB, which seems insufficient. The tool also prevents resizing the partition.
The WinRE section is typically located at the end of the volume. Adjusting the end of the C drive partition will free space for a larger WinRE file. Follow the correct sequence of steps carefully. If the WinRE appears directly under the C drive as shown in Disk Manager, you may encounter problems. Right-click the Start menu and select Disk Management, or open diskmgmt.msc from the command prompt to check the disk layout.
Consider the 250 figure and decide whether to reduce or expand accordingly.
250 meets the requirements. The WinRE partition was adjusted to 757, and the update was applied successfully afterward.
