It's been a year since you got your Lenovo Y400, and it came with a 1TB hard drive. You're using around 300GB recently, the task manager shows full usage, and your computer is starting to lag. Is there a solution to improve performance?

Check if this applies consistently or is limited to early stages. Adjust the number of startup launches to reduce HDD usage. Perform a malware scan just in case.

Consider the hard drive might be malfunctioning. Use SeaTools for diagnosis: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

The paging file in Windows 8 can be tricky to handle automatically. I faced the same issue with my laptop, assuming it was doomed—turns out it wasn't. This solution really helped, making the machine functional again. Follow this guide. Note: Values should reflect your total RAM, plus twice that amount. My case used 8GB, 8192 bytes, and 16384 bytes.

It occurs frequently, happening every time it starts and during regular operation.

Welcome to the club I've been having the same problem for over a year now, although recently it hasn't occurred so often anymore. I've checked for malware, changed Windows Fetching etc etc but to no avail...
