The paging file in Windows 8 can be tricky to handle automatically. I faced the same issue with my laptop, assuming it was doomed—turns out it wasn't. This solution really helped, making the machine functional again. Follow this guide. Note: Values should reflect your total RAM, plus twice that amount. My case used 8GB, 8192 bytes, and 16384 bytes.
