Are there any good alternatives to Explorer you'd suggest? I was thinking of using Steam Big Picture but ended up skipping it because the interface isn’t very user-friendly. Mostly just browsing Chrome and Steam.

Absolutely, you're right. It's not easy to find direct alternatives for Explorer anymore, especially after systems like Windows 98 and 2000.

This isnt a linux distro, you cant simply replace the entire shell. What you described was modifying it, not replacing it. Nothing exists that changes the entire gui. The only thing close to that is custom themes which you can find at deviant art or adding a start button to windows 8. Other than that, anything out there is just covering up the shell and not actually replacing it. That is about as exciting as it gets on windows.

*smirks* I’ve customized the registry a bit. I swapped out the boot animation and background for Logon. I just keep Windows for games like GTA V and AC: BlackFlag.
