For a while after Windows 8 was released, some companies still offered both Windows 8 and Windows 7 keys. Often it was just a Windows 7 key at the bottom, or even embedded in the BIOS if the system used UEFI.

Error code activation: 0XC004E003 (License already active). Another device has used this product key. Purchase a new OEM license from your preferred seller.

It's time to invest another 130 dollars in this poor product.

Why not choose 8.1 and unlock star8 via stardock or classic start? There are clear performance benefits to switching from Windows 7. The main hurdles are usually personal choice or organizational policies like joining a domain.

Indeed, but that was a limited time offer, and unless it was specifically stated, and documented when he bought his Laptop, he'd be out of luck. It does seem like that is the case. I would try Phone Activation, but if you bought the License off a place like Reddit or G2A, then likely you got scammed (They sold the same license to multiple people).

Did you purchase the retail license? For example, from an official outlet like NewEgg, Micro Center, or Best Buy? If yes, I’d attempt Phone Activation and, if necessary, contact a Microsoft representative.

The phone call would probably be effective, I can assure you. It has helped me before with similar problems.

I've frequently used Phone Activation before. Often, when I had to swap out a faulty motherboard, the reinstall seemed to suggest a different setup.

I purchased additional copies a while back just in case I needed them later. I plan to try phone activation soon. I’m aware there might be a waiting period involved.
