I have Windows installed on my school laptop (HP Pavilion G7-2269wm) and I’m having trouble activating Windows 7 Pro x64. My previous system ran Windows 8, and I prefer using 7 because it’s more familiar. I’m not sure why activation isn’t working, but I’d rather reinstall if necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.

This could be a straightforward and simple inquiry, but do you possess a Windows 7 license? The Windows 8 version that came with the machine isn't applicable for Windows 7, so it shouldn't be considered.

Your Windows 7 license type is either OEM/System Builder or Retail. It hasn’t been used on another device before. When activation fails, the system doesn’t try to activate at all and displays an error message instead.

It seems to be an OEM part, but I haven't tested it on a machine before. It attempts to start, then displays an error message.

I don’t have a visual capture, but I know the error code. It’s 0xC004E003. Let me help you figure out what it means.
