I interpreted "opened the first file" to mean initiating the process of accessing the initial document.
Then I explained each step clearly.
Finally, I confirmed the action was taken.

I installed the Office.
I opened the first file (XLS) – I had to make changes in the table and then save it.
At that time, the program said it couldn’t save the file because of a "share problem" or something similar, and it saved it as a temporary file with no extension.
This kept happening every time I opened a Word or Excel file.
The solution is to "save as" – for each open file.
But it’s still quite frustrating...
Moreover, I’m worried that eventually the Office will behave the same way again, like when it froze a few days ago and we had to restart the computer to stop the process, which then brought back all the issues we talked about earlier. 😟

Office 10 (XP) has been my go-to version, whether on Windows 7 or 10.
Recently, on my old laptop running Windows 10, it ceased functioning a few months back.
