Windows 11: prevent forced updates. Steps to avoid them.
I struggle with sleep issues. It seems to run in my family too. Their medications and some simple techniques help. One approach uses certain white noise sounds, but they don’t work if my computer encounters any issues from MS settings. I’m considering skipping automatic updates until they stop affecting Ryzen or other hardware I’ve installed. Probably best not to wait unless a fix actually works. So far, it hasn’t helped. In Windows 10 I disabled them briefly because they kept causing problems.
Fair play, but honestly frustrated. It’s really annoying how this simple feature never existed before. NGL was already upset when two controllers just broke yesterday—first the battery, then the housing fell apart. Later, the PS3’s USB cable stopped working and also broke. Now the replacements are way more expensive than what I originally spent. Just to get the keyboard back in working order and enjoy a beer, or try Shovel Knight, it feels like a waste of money.
Turn off the update service via the registry. That’s the right approach. Even better, install a stripped-down version of Windows from Team OS without any extra components. Could simplify things a lot.
Let me know more about your experience! I'm curious about what made Win 7, 2k, XP, and 8.1 feel different for you. You mentioned using it mostly at a work office, so it sounds like you had to deal with some challenges. What specifically was difficult or awkward?
Take a look yourself. You only need to create an account on the Team OS website. Personally, I rely on those for a VM with my GPU pass-through setup on Linux. I’m using Windows less now, but those mods have made these newer versions workable and manageable for me.
Running version 11 brings back many familiar features. Some preinstalled components from earlier 11 mods are included. The removal of CPU/TPM/Secure boot requirements, plus Defender and similar add-ons, also simplifies the setup.
