I was playing League of Legends when I realized my frame rates were dropping so bad I tried to resolve it. Eventually, after reformatting my PC twice, I found the problem likely came from the drive. When I opened a drive, the cursor turned into a loading circle and everything loaded slowly. After the format, things improved for about a month. Then today the same issue returned. I’m not sure what to do other than performing a full format—now everything runs much slower. PS: My system uses an SSD.

Use the manufacturer’s built-in utility or a standard app such as CrystalDiskInfo to assess your SSD’s condition. To provide tailored guidance, it’s important to identify the specific components of your system.

Verify your storage setup. Older mechanical hard drives were prone to failure when the mouse stopped responding or when a spinning disk failed to access a file. Often, the issue stemmed from corrupted files making it hard for the system to read them. If you're using an SSD, ensure it's not exceeding 75% utilization—above that isn't ideal. Also, confirm it hasn't reached the end of its lifespan due to heavy swapping usage. Modern drives cost under $50 per TB, so opt for a reliable one to maintain peace of mind.

I shared those details while typing your reply. In short, for around $100 you can swap out both the HDD and SSD for a new 2TB drive, which will significantly boost performance—you might wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. If you’re on a tight budget, consider going with a 1TB SSD instead.

The hard drive is just a year old, while the SSD is two years old and remains fully functional with over 80% health.

After the update, I realized the problem might be related to software or hardware. I ran antivirus scans, performed a disk clean, and used registry tools to check for any issues.

Is your League of Legends setup using an SSD or an HDD? I recommend temporarily taking out the HDD to check performance. A system this old doesn't guarantee any issues, but it won't tell you about hidden problems either. REMEMBER: if you remove the HDD, detach the SATA cable to prevent any signals from reaching it.
