Windows 11 File Explorer is causing unusual problems.
I found a new problem that just began. When I right-click on My Documents, a separate 2TB SSD appears with all files moved there. Pictures, music, etc., work fine. The file explorer freezes completely—no crashes or warnings, just spinning. The PC keeps running but the explorer won’t do anything until I tap three times and restart. All other drives and folders function normally. The drive’s crystal disk shows it’s okay. I can access files, move them, use files, etc., without issues, but right-clicking kills it. I’ve checked various guides online. Tried restarting Explorer: Open Task Manager, right-click Windows Explorer, choose Restart. Clear Cache: Go to File Explorer Options, click Clear under Clear File Explorer history. Run SFC: Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run sfc /scannow. Disable Quick Access: Set Open File Explorer to “This PC” in File Explorer Options. Check Updates: Make sure Windows is up to date in Settings > Windows Update. I changed the SATA cable and port, but that didn’t help. Safe mode does the same, so it’s probably not related to the changes I made. I’m really confused and wish someone could help before I make any more decisions. By the way, I hate Windows 11 and regret downgrading.
Check the Event Viewer for numerous Disk Error records; this suggests the hard drive may be failing.
It's the internal SATA SSD used for documents. I didn't mention the operating system disk.
You're not sure which part to focus on, are you? Just let me know what you're thinking.
Open the Start menu, press right-click, and select Event Viewer. After launching, navigate to the System section in the tree layout. Disk errors will appear with red crosses next to them, making them noticeable.
Only one disk error was recorded three months ago, meaning there’s nothing significant to investigate further.
Check out this site for better performance than Crystaldisk and it often fixes issues.
I would also attempt to link it to another machine to verify consistent functionality.
Usb could work if you only have a laptop running linux mint. Since your devices are all phones and tablets, you might need a different setup with sata and windows.
