Fixed it. I unplugged the hard drive to test it on another PC with a SATA disk. It passed all checks. After booting, some windows froze and links disappeared, but after restarting and reinserting the drive, everything worked again—links moved to the document drive. No errors. Acronis disk image helped save it. Thanks everyone for your help; I thought I had it figured out, but I’ll settle for a win. Can’t figure out how to mark this as solved, if anyone knows where to find the right button.
