Windows 10 Redstone 4 stops your PC from resting so Windows Update can complete its work.
Yesterday Microsoft released the update notes for its newest insider version of Windows 10 (17017). At the top of the list are these details, along with the known issues here: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperie...fast-ring/. I thought it was worth mentioning because while this move seems to be a positive step, it’s once more Microsoft taking control of users’ devices. If someone has their PC set to sleep automatically when idle, they likely have a reason—perhaps to conserve energy and money, or reduce noise. When this update drops, many computers will suddenly behave differently than what users expect, forcing Microsoft to meet its demands. That’s not ideal.
I'm excited about this update and eager to enhance my software further.
I seriously doubt someone would set their PC to sleep to reduce power bills or reducing noise pollution. Keeping a PC on to download an update is perfectly fine imho. Otherwise you end up with people on an out of date version which isn't supported. Nothing to see here. I know people who hate updating and updates. But frankly updates are just a part of modern software products. I would say that most users don't do a good enough job of staying up to date imo.and if they don't like updates then I'd suggest not using tech products. Also, no offense OP but why is this news?
Since 2015 Ubuntu has been my full-time system with no regrets. I hope my workplace would allow me to use it there as well. After switching from AutoCAD to BricsCAD, all PLC, HMI and SCADA tools now run on separate VMs, making W10 unnecessary except for a few reasons.
Microsoft's guiding phrase: "We can accomplish anything. Capture them with the PC."
It seems power use would likely stay the same or even increase. Unless electricity is extremely costly in your area, I wouldn’t bother. In my previous build, I usually kept it running or powered it down when finished. I generally prefer not to let a desktop sit idle.
Hoping this update resolves the issues I've faced since 1709. I'm confident it will bring fresh challenges, but it would be great if the system regains its focus on timers.
