Windows 10 loads in 5-10 minutes, but I have top-tier components like a 3090, 5950x, and 128GB RAM. The only missing piece is my HDD—I’m using an external hard drive instead of a solid-state drive. Is the HDD causing the slowdown? If so, let me know what upgrades you’re considering!

The problem seems to be with the hard drive. A cheaper SSD would likely resolve this. You probably got a high-end PC but chose a storage device that’s been slow for years. What’s your budget looking like?

Starting from the hard drive is normally a bit sluggish, yet it shouldn't be this much slower. Was the experience similar during your initial Windows setup?

That's quite an old setup! You've got a 5950X processor, 3090 RAM, and a hard drive acting as your startup disk.

The brain can handle around 100 questions each second, but the cabinet only provides 3 pages every 4 seconds. That’s going to feel tedious. Yes, it’s quite slow compared to what it used to be. My old setup was an i7-870 with 8GB RAM and a basic SSD. It booted Windows in about 15–20 seconds, and around 30 seconds later it was running. I don’t need to know how long it took when it was using the HDD—just that it’s a real pain.

Observe the contrast between a traditional hard drive and an SSD even in basic systems. It's puzzling how you could purchase 128GB of RAM and still experience constant slowdowns from persistent system crashes.

I meant I purchased all these components when you could earn a good profit from mining, so I assumed the computer would recoup its cost through mining raptorium and ethereum. Now it looks like that won’t happen. I overspent on my 3090 and 3080 models significantly. I used an hdd I ran Vista on for years—it worked fine. It’s not a brand-new hdd, it’s quite old. I have a brand new one but didn’t want to reinstall Windows. This is my mining PC with several GPUs connected, Spoiler: it’s not working as expected.

I put Trident Royal on because it seemed nice, but in truth I only needed 32GB. I didn’t purchase a case, so I never even accessed the memory, which feels a bit disappointing. Everything unfolded very fast since I got many GPUs at MSRP and then others followed, leading to all systems crashing.

I plan to request a free SSD from my nearby microcenter. I don’t want to pay anything right now. I put more than $10,000 into GPUs recently during MSRP availability, but wow… things aren’t looking well anymore, ffs.

Windows has become significantly more intricate over time, making it considerably slower to load compared to earlier versions like Vista. This added complexity results in longer startup times, especially on older drives such as HDDs, which can delay reaching a responsive and functional state.
