Windows 10 MBR/GPT
Windows 10 MBR/GPT
Windows 10 with GPT will likely make upgrading more complex. Current previews don’t provide a straightforward method to switch drives without erasing everything. While there are workarounds, Microsoft’s approach remains unclear.
You asked about the origin of this conversation, specifically regarding where it's heading.
Windows 10 isn't employing GPT at all. My current usage confirms it remains MBR-based. The only relevant point I've found is that "Windows 10 can't be installed from a USB drive using GPT."
The installer refuses to allow installation on MBR. It seems this might be a limited preview feature. I concur with @EarthboundHero—GPT performs better.
Both 7 and 8 appear to function well on MBR in VM environments.
