I recently updated Windows 1709 and noticed something unusual. When I powered off my PC while it was running and then restarted, it would automatically open the programs I had left open before shutdown. This is making my startup time much longer and loading extra applications that I no longer need. I haven’t found a fix online and suspect I might be using incorrect search terms. If anyone has any advice, it would be really helpful. Also, I don’t have any installed programs that seem to trigger this issue.

It's a silly new addition. We must stop these applications before ending it.

It does happen for me, but I usually just overlook it and quickly stop thinking about it. Is there a way to turn it off?

This has occurred before when Chrome was running and I logged in. It seems to happen occasionally.

Yes it does for me too. So far this feature cannot be disable of the option for it isn't discovered yet. There is a feature called "Improved Boot up experience" But that only has to do with automatic login, has nothing to do with this annoying autostarting of programs. Let's say I have FireFox open when I shutdown. When I power my system back on and login, FireFox will immediately open back up. Now if I close off FireFox and then shutdown. FireFox will not automatically relaunch after I turn on my system. I know that OSX has this feature too, but they do have a option to disable it in the shutdown dialogue box.

Appears to occur mainly with applications that don’t need User Account Control access.

the update must be within 10 days, otherwise you risk losing new programs. It’s unclear if this applies to files—updates might revert unexpectedly.

Have you checked if turning off certain apps in Task Manager's startup section helps?

I’d rather look for a questionable workaround instead of reverting the update. I still want a few of the new features from the latest release. This version seems flawed, but I’m open to other solutions. What else can help resolve this?

I also have it, but it keeps happening. Here’s what my start manager is like... The program there has an issue, even though Microsoft Visual Studio isn’t the main problem.
