Windows 10 issue at end of life phase
Windows 10 issue at end of life phase
The discussion focuses on practical implementation rather than casual gaming setups. Most participants are professionals or business users, not hobbyists assembling rigs at home.
Initially it's unclear how much data is being extracted from users' devices (telemetry). This is why Windows 10 and 11 are essentially free or usable without activation. Secondly, Microsoft primarily earns revenue from service contracts with big enterprise clients. Additionally, as a cloud service provider, they also generate significant income in that area. You have several options: 1) Keep using the device after October, assuming it's not downloading unnecessary files or visiting random websites; I might avoid banking apps on it. I could consider a third-party antivirus. 2) Pay for Windows 10 updates. 3) Try to install Windows 11 through a bypass method. 4) Switch to Linux, though it will require some learning. A KDE-based distribution might be a good fit since it resembles Windows. 5) Get a new computer.
Essentially, you share my view. Microsoft isn't overly worried about piracy of the operating system since they're relying on other sources of income.
They generate significant revenue by distributing Windows to companies such as Dell and HP. These products include both consumer desktops and workstation models.
They may rely on other income sources but that doesn't mean they're indifferent. I remember when Microsoft once held more than 90% of the market. That situation has changed. It seems to be slipping slightly each year. Technology has advanced. Not everyone owns a desktop or laptop anymore. Tablets and smartphones are now common. Many of these devices don’t run Windows. Microsoft lets Windows operate without activation because they prefer users to own it rather than just use it. Previously, they would let Windows run for 30 days without charge before stopping it. That was the usual practice, though piracy still existed but was more challenging.
