They might be looking for quick fixes or simple solutions. There are many free tools available for nearly any task.
This program isn't related to piracy. Unauthorized copies of Windows still receive the upgrade, but using an unofficial version of Windows 7/8.1 means you'll be moving to another non-original Windows 10 version. This allows Microsoft to reset any activation issues you might have had with Windows 8 and encourages everyone to use the Windows Store. The upgrade is free when completed within a year, and it remains valid for the device's lifetime afterward.
The phrase about being "free for a year" was initially unclear. Offering pirates a free upgrade to version 10 doesn’t make sense. The software has always been free; you can download a Windows ISO directly from Microsoft. You pay for the product key. Those who pirate Windows can easily get 10 from standard sources, and they’ll need to do so if they want to activate it.
I'm still unsure about this. I meant to say I'm not taking the hype seriously and I'm holding my breath until it's clear. I doubt they'll actually do it, but you can't predict everything. I believe the free upgrade to Windows 10 is meant to encourage people to switch from older versions like XP and Vista (*lol*).
They clearly wanted to take advantage of you by offering an upgrade option only to disrupt your setup later. It’s a smart move to push for dominance and introduce micro-transactions, which would definitely affect your experience.
