Recently, my laptop has been experiencing random 100% disk errors that lock the computer. I'm using a 5400RPM 1TB SSD and plan to upgrade to an M.2 SSD. I suspect the issue might be with Windows 10 since I think it's related to a Windows 7 installation. Any suggestions?

Could be related to a thermal problem.

there was an issue with Windows 10, and I returned to Win 7 without any clear solution. It persists even after reinstalling, and it continues to work even when Windows 10 runs inside a virtual machine.

Launch "Perfmon," navigate to the Disk section, and check the File activity area. This shows which files are being accessed. Windows 10 tends to perform poorly with 7200rpm mechanical drives; using a 5400rpm drive only adds to the problem. Switching to an SSD would significantly improve performance.

Windows 10 seems to be full of malware. I wouldn’t want it on a laptop that doesn’t come with it.

The laptop comes with Windows 10 and either an Intel i5/i7 or AMD Ryzen processor, or it lacks any Windows 7 support drivers. That means you're in trouble.

Missing drivers can be super frustrating. Picture a situation with no sound, no USB 3 (which was the only port on that laptop), no Wi-Fi, and no wired network—so you can't even search for drivers when you're sitting right next to your router. Then I've heard about strange bluescreens and other issues when trying to run Windows 7 on certain CPUs. Hope you're doing okay.

I ran my N450-powered laptop without drivers and it worked. Still, maybe ten drivers could help on 7...

Installing a Windows 7 drive with an NVMe requires effort and expertise. Proceed with caution.
