I wrote a new update about this situation a few days back. Recently, the Windows Update Assistant installed on my PC attempted to upgrade to Windows 10 version 1709, but it consistently failed after two attempts. No error messages appeared, just a simple failure. I tried manually downloading and installing from the official site, but that also didn’t work—my system blue-screened during startup, though the issue resolved once I adjusted the BIOS settings. Windows support mentioned my ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 (bought in October 2016) isn’t compatible with the latest Windows releases, and they suggested checking their FAQ page. Despite trying everything, I’m still unsure why such a powerful machine with sufficient SSD space would become incompatible with newer versions so quickly. I reached out to ASUS support, but they didn’t seem to grasp my problem and just advised retrying the installation.

From a technical standpoint, your setup should support Windows 10. However, it's possible that ASUS implemented certain backend changes affecting BIOS compatibility. Assume we can get it operational. Typically, the issue stems from BIOS control tools or overclocking utilities. Remove those programs, restart, and see if it works. Drivers might also need refreshing. Ensure you use the original manufacturer's hardware for each component and keep all drivers current. Security software may prevent updates.

Could you check if there are any issues? Run sfc /scannow from the command prompt with admin rights.

works on Windows 10, though it struggles with newer updates—specifically those after 1607 and the July 2016 major release, with two updates since then, the most recent being 1709.

I’d consider the advice from GoodBytes. A fresh installation seems to be the best option if you want to update Windows. I’ve already set up the newest Windows 10 on devices originally built for XP, but it doesn’t mean your computer can’t run the latest version now.

Perform a fresh installation or temporarily turn off your antivirus program. Start with the latter, then proceed to a clean install if needed.
