GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (16 cores) @ 3.700GHz
RAM: 32 GB
OS: Manjaro (Linux distribution based on KDE)

When playing games it runs smoothly, but on desktop it feels sluggish. I tried Windows too, but it was even slower. If anyone has any thoughts on why it’s so slow, please let me know—I’m not very experienced with PC parts. Thank you!

If you're open to exploring different distributions with arch-based or rolling release models, try endeavourOS—it's lightweight and installs quickly.

Thanks for your reply, I'll also try EndosystemOS next time when I use Windows. My CPU would be at 100% even with just one app or installing games from Steam. I had some issues with NVIDIA drivers on Manjaro but fixed them quickly. To be clear, how can I make my apps load faster without overclocking?

I’m not sure what SATA cables are, but there are two types that aren’t plugged in and they’re labeled “PCI-E.” Please let me know if you need help with those connections.

I suspect the issue might be due to using a relatively slow hard drive, like the TOSHIBA HDWD110. For your PRIME A320M-K motherboard, consider SSD PLSS options to improve performance.

Search for your motherboard model online to find the correct SATA ports and verify if your cable supports speeds like 6gbps. Pcie connections aren't required unless you're using a graphics card that needs extra power. When relocating the cables, watch out for BIOS settings—resetting the boot order could happen. If your system remains sluggish, the cables might be damaged or faulty. I experienced this issue and replaced my SATA 3 cables, which now let me boot up in just 30 seconds instead of minutes. These standard SATA 2 cables typically support up to 3 gbps, while SATA 3 cables usually offer higher speeds, often blue in color.

If it's a mechanical hard drive instead of an SSD, the system will likely fail completely. The Crucial MX500 remains a strong choice for a decent SATA SSD.
