Why is my fresh Windows 11 install taking so long? I used to have Windows 10 and wanted to upgrade, but the system felt slow, so I decided to format it too. First I upgraded to 11, then I started a clean reinstall. It's been over an hour now, and only about 25% is done. I've done several formats before, which usually took between 30 minutes and an hour. My specs are: 9700k, a 500gb ssd, a 1tb m2 nvme ssd, Samsung 970 2tb, Toshiba hdd. All three drives are around 50% full. Thanks in advance.

What part of your journey am I at right now? Why do I need to take out those old hard drives instead of just keeping them? How come I'm deciding to wipe my new SSD clean?

Well it says right now "resetting this computer" and shows the Asus logo with a progress bar. I tried reinstalling using the media creation tool, but that didn't work for me. Since I wanted to make backups, I only had one flash drive available, so this time I decided to use the "build-in feature" in Windows called "reset this pc." Then I went through the "cloud download" option. I haven't formatted my computer in 4 years and thought it might be easier to clean everything up, including the SSD. But I'm not sure where I messed up because it takes way too long now.

turning off and turning back on the computer is just like starting it up again, so you don't need to do anything special.

The thread is named "clean reinstall." That doesn't match what you're actually trying to do. The normal way to make sure your system is completely clean is to delete every single partition by using the media creation tool on a bootable USB stick.

Why specifically did you pick that? Well, because I wanted to do some backups I used the one and only flash drive that was available at the time. I'm not following that logic. An 8 GB flash drive costs nothing more than five dollars if you don't have one.

I needed to start right away because I only had one flash drive to use. I thought the choice I made was exactly what you'd do with that Media Creation Tool, so isn't that true?

How much space was on the drive before? Did you mess with any options?
