Step 8 says: Clean data - If I pick No (which is usually better), then just my stuff gets wiped fast. If I say Yes, it wipes everything really safely before putting on Windows, but that takes a long time. Did you choose Yes or No? Choosing No means no clean install. Connecting to the cloud will definitely slow things down too.
You mean how much space is on your hard drives and SSDs? I am asking for the exact numbers so they are clear. You want to know what is currently used versus free on each storage drive. Please tell me if there is a mistake or if you just need clarification.
I have never seen anyone try this way to clean up their hard drive. It could happen at some point in the future. How long will that take? Just keep going like you did before and watch what happens, or use your usual trick with a USB stick instead. That's up to you.
Yeah, I mean I thought it was basically doing exactly the same thing as using a normal media tool. Basically, it's another way to do things. Yeah, it feels INSANELY slow now. Two hours have passed and I'm at 38%. Even if I really wanted to give up on this "reset" and go back to using the media creation tool - would that even be possible right now while I'm in the middle of this process? Wouldn't switching things just cause a problem or break something?
Well, if you issued a "cancel" command or something like that, I wouldn't expect the drive to be bootable. You might say "so what if it won't boot, I'm going to do a clean reinstall using a USB stick instead anyway". Problem might be.....do you have some other method of going to Microsoft and making a traditional USB installer using the Media Creation Tool? Or is this your only PC and if it won't boot you are dead in the water and can't do anything at all? Point being you may have no other choice than to wait and hope your current attempt succeeds even if it takes many hours.

Yes, that is my only computer - my laptop isn't working and needs a fix 😅 But if I need to grab some tools quickly from another PC, I can do it by just shutting down my main pc, turning it back on, and then booting up from the flash drive. Is that right? Also, just to be sure: the flash drive has to be completely empty except for the media creation tool. It took me a lot of work to get there, so I want to make sure nothing else is cluttering it right now, yes?
If you want to start your computer from a flash drive, try changing the boot order in the BIOS settings. OR... you could press a specific key right after the machine starts to see a list of options and pick your USB stick from that menu for just this one try. F2, F9, or delete work sometimes depending on what's on the drive. Whatever is on the flash drive will get wiped when you make an installer from it. I don't know how to do this with another PC. It might go okay. I have zero experience doing that. In your shoes... I would probably let the current attempt finish if possible. It could work fine. Anything else SHOULD work, but why take a risk when you might end up just okay if you wait a few more hours? Your choice.
If I am getting the media creation tool, it is on the Microsoft website. So I don't think where I download it from matters much. Should everything be the same right? Well, you are probably correct. Maybe I should wait just a bit longer. But wouldn't you agree that using the media creation tool to reinstall things takes about 30 minutes to an hour?
