Why is Linux or Mac OS good?
I’ve always been familiar with the three most popular operating systems—Windows, Mac, and Linux—and I’ve never really understood their differences. My experience has mostly been with Windows, so I’m curious about how they compare in terms of security, performance, and other aspects. Thanks!
Linux and macOS are both nix-based systems with distinct approaches unlike Windows. The variations are extensive enough to warrant a full paper, but I’ll reference the 2008 article you mentioned for key insights: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10-thin...d-windows/
I modified my laptop to run macOS and had a great experience. It works well for tasks, runs smoothly, offers nice animations, and most games don’t function properly on it.
Windows requires more hardware resources, while OSX is relatively less demanding. In terms of ease of use, OSX tends to be simpler, whereas Windows can feel more challenging. If you're used to OSX, switching to Windows or vice versa can be tough. I personally use both and appreciate their strengths and weaknesses. The most effective way to decide is by experimenting with all three. I'm still getting comfortable with Linux but have less time compared to my OSX background. If you're serious about learning, consider starting with OSX or Linux directly without revisiting Windows unless necessary. I had to make a similar transition with OSX.
macOS works well for professional tasks, runs smoothly, and saves battery. For gaming, Windows is better, while Mac or Linux suits coding and Swift development. Keep in mind you can't run Swift on Mac.
