It seems the question assumes familiarity with a specific term that might not be widely known. The reference to "nix" likely points to a niche or technical concept within computing.

It's pointless to fix it, particularly wrongly. You should have simply indicated it refers to a Unix-like system if you truly wanted clarity for others.

Since it runs on Unix, it isn't just "Unix-like"—it's genuinely Unix.

It's not fully accurate because it draws from BSD which itself stems from early UNIX. macOS has been approved to use the UNIX trademark since version 10.5, though BSD certification isn't confirmed. In any case, it doesn't directly align with UNIX standards and 'nix isn't an official label, so I still believe it works.

Discarding unnecessary chatter, there are numerous methods to compare the three major operating systems. Here are a few perspectives, including my own experience using both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). Windows can be complex at its core, requiring regular updates until around Win10. It’s the only OS you can purchase and run on your preferred device. Linux refers to the underlying system that gets updated as a single unit. Each version is built from software and add-ons that distinguish it from others, known as distributions or distros. Linux is open-source and works on any machine you choose. Mac OS resembles Windows but has been consistently improved over the years. It integrates closely with hardware, making it compatible even with less powerful systems compared to commercial options. Similar to consoles, this offers benefits such as seamless performance with available hardware. The main benefit of Windows (still) over Linux lies in software and gaming support. Although many versions exist on Linux, financial considerations often keep game developers and professional creators satisfied with Windows and Mac OS. Two key strengths of Linux are its free nature and lower hardware demands. If you’re not heavily focused on gaming or don’t mind the more involved setup for games and software, Linux is the ideal option.
