I put Vista on a very old laptop just for a friend. Launching IE took about a minute, while Win7 opened in five seconds. What a mess!

It wasn't that way. XP was the worst. Speed, the appearance, the features, and its overall gameplay.

The only machine I owned with Vista ran on a Core 2 Quad and a 7200RPM Caviar Blue processor, making it quite responsive and booting in about 30 seconds. No issues for me. But a Pentium 4 shouldn't be able to handle Vista well at all.

He switched his old Vista machine to XP because he didn’t know much about technology at the time, but he was determined enough to make it happen.

The boot time isn't the best measure and varies with MB and other factors. I used it before and it felt very resource-heavy, had some issues, UAC worked well but it kept restarting on everything.

It's hard to believe how slow XP was. I spent fifteen minutes just opening Chrome on my laptop and another fifteen loading a page. Don’t let me know I’m one of the toughest Vista fans!

Back then, using Acer with Vista resulted in a lot of BSOD errors. As a computer technician at the time, I found it extremely challenging to understand the root causes of these problems.

Vista is a reduced form of ME. The main change was its stability—no longer died every five minutes and didn’t require reinstallation every three months. It was marginally more reliable.
