Messages work well for me and I haven’t met anyone using G+; therefore, I won’t use both accounts.

I don’t rely on either platform. I’m not one to engage in social circles; I avoid those “social media” sites. I favor text conversations over watching friends’ appearances, which is why a dedicated IM app like Trillian works better than Hangouts.

I rely on Hangouts since the old setup only had basic internet, letting me share photos and check if someone read the message. Now I own a Nexus 5 where Hangouts is set as the main chat app. I still use the desktop version but often switch to my Nexus or S3.

The only times I rely on Google messaging are when collaborating with others via Google Docs or Drive, and I use the messenger there. Otherwise, Skype is my go-to. (I really hope people would switch to something better, but no one seems interested.)
