Hey, I saw something like this yesterday and I’m hoping to gather more thoughts before making the purchase (hope it helps me decide). I’m currently comparing two setups: one with 4x8GB at 3600MHz CL16 Crucial Ballistix RGB and another with 4x16GB at 3600MHz CL16 Crucial Ballistix RGB. Both are four-stick configurations, but the Crucial now has its 16GB dimmed to a single rank. To run them as dual-rank and get a small performance boost, I need four dimms—distinct from the dual-channel setup. Unfortunately, my system is really underpowered, so I’m not sure which programs I’ll use. What matters most is that I want to build hyper-realistic models, renders, interiors, and even a virtual store that feels almost real, like LG did. I’d also be exploring game design and, as a hobby, designing prosthetics or supports for people with hypermobility issues. This machine would be my go-to tool for the next 3-4 years until I upgrade, so I need plenty of flexibility to learn. I should also note I’ll keep Chrome, Photoshop, Discord, and other background apps open. Right now I’m just starting out, but this is my top priority—about 90% of my time will go into it. Plus, it’ll also serve as my computer for my online university course. I hope this explanation makes sense and apologize if I posted something similar before. Stay safe, Lex.

Check the cost variations between the two RAM sets. Both are CL16, though individual specifications may differ slightly. The clock speeds for each model can also change, so review the detailed timings for accuracy.

Prices are £199 for two 2x8GB units and £360 for two 2x16GB units. Both options have sub-timings from 16 to 38. They both use Micron E drives. Honestly, the UK rates seem steep, but they’re still reasonably priced.

The current pricing in the UK is a bit higher than before—two 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 drives cost around £360, whereas it used to be between £290 and £300. I’m unlikely to start with 64GB right now since I’m still getting the hang of things, but I don’t want to replace my RAM later if needed. I think it’s okay to overspec a bit; probably no issues if I ever need more storage. Thanks for the advice!

It seems the best choice would be the 2x16GB units if you expect heavy RAM usage from apps and background tasks. I’d recommend waiting until late November or December, when prices tend to fall after the holidays.

It seems like you're planning a 64GB setup. You might want to purchase a kit now to test everything, then buy another one later this month or next.

If I were you, I'd choose a 2x32GB setup (still 64GB total), which lets you upgrade to 128GB later. I'm not sure how extensive your scenes will be, but you can handle over 60GB of RAM usage without trouble depending on your tasks.

This will function well when you purchase an additional kit.

Two RAM sticks perform better than four. A 16GB capacity is typically sufficient, unless you require more for advanced tasks... Honestly, I wouldn’t spend much on DDR5 RAM right now... it feels like a waste.

You could purchase 2x16GB right away and upgrade later when necessary. Generally, it takes several years for prices to become fair and faster memory speeds to appear with each new RAM standard.
