I need to buy either an i5 3570k or 4670k and overclock it. Which option is better?

The recommended setup is a very strong 4790K OC Base with a base frequency of 4.0GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.4GHz.
You only need to activate Turbo in the BIOS, enable Intel XMP, and you should see the CPU running around 4.5 to 4.6GHZ on the first core, possibly varying slightly based on the motherboard.
What else is required?
If you plan to overclock, ensure you have a superior CPU cooler that fits properly.
Also verify that your memory slots accommodate the heavy cooler.
Best regards from Sweden

Another point to note: the Asus P8H61-MX USB3 board doesn't fit Haswell sockets; it only works with older Sandy Bridge 1155 models, making this motherboard unsuitable.
https://www.asus.com/se/Motherboards/P8H...fications/
The MSI H81M-E33 is compatible with the i5 3670k and 4790 (K) CPU, though it remains quite outdated.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/H81M-E33...cification
For such a situation, I recommend opting for a Z97 chipset.
No board supports the i5 3670k with its FCLGA1155 socket. http://ark.intel.com/products/65702/Intel-Core-i5-3570-...

I'm quite certain you can push the H81M to higher speeds. What are you planning to use your computer for? Are you into gaming or rendering? The 4670k already performs well without overclocking.

Flyfisherman shared his thoughts on motherboard compatibility. He mentioned that the Asus P8H61-MX USB3 only works with older Sandy Bridge 1155 chips, not Haswell, making it unsuitable. He also noted that the MSI H81M-E33 supports i7 CPUs but is still quite outdated. He recommended considering a Z97 chipset in such situations and pointed out that no board supports the i5 3670k with its FCLGA1155 socket.

Flyfisherman :
A note: The Asus P8H61-MX USB3 isn’t compatible with Haswell socket 1150; it only fits older Sandy Bridge 1155 models, making this board unsuitable.
https://www.asus.com/se/Motherboards/P8H...fications/
MSI H81M-E33 is compatible with Intel Core i7 4770 and 4790 (K), though it remains an outdated platform.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/H81M-E33...cification
For such cases, a Z97 chipset would be advisable.
None of the boards will accommodate the i5 3670k Ivy Bridge with its FCLGA1155 socket.

FCLGA1155 matches the LGA1155 standard.
Yes, you’re correct—I was a bit quick there, hehe.
Appreciate the clarification.
The main point is that both use flip-chip technology and are land grid array (LGA), but this doesn’t change the consumer impact.

Hello thanks very much for replys,
I will be using the cpu for gaming, so i need the best performance possible cause im updating from a i5 3470.
I was looking for either 4670k, 4690k or 3570k refurbished or used on ebay, but keeping an eye on the seller feedback. Idk if its a good idea though considering they are K cpus. I didnt want to waste the 3470 thats why i wanted to go for 4th generation but if the 3470 will work on the h81m-e33 this wouldnt be a problem. Im not sure if the P8H61-MX USB3 is good for overclocking though.
My RAM modules are kinda high, im not sure if they would cause trouble with the cooler, would it be safe to remove the plastic thing that makes them taller?. Im talking about 8 gb Vengeance modules

It looks like neither of my motherboards are good for overclocking an i5 at this stage. I'm planning to use a Skylake board. I'm considering the Asrock Z170 Pro4/D3 with an i5 6600k. Since the board supports DDR3 RAM, I hope my modules will work.

Hello,
How are things going for you?
Best wishes from Sweden
I'm just trying to save some cash for a Skylake upgrade right now, because a mobile processor upgrade is still needed anyway.
