Hey, when I double click on the game icon (Half Life 1), nothing happens. A small loading circle appears next to my cursor for a second, then nothing. It just won't launch! I tried compatibility mode but it didn't work either. It worked before. I'm using Windows 8.1

HL1 doesn't work with Windows 8 for sure. You can check the official site here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/c...=Windows+8

morgilroka: HL1 isn't working with Windows 8 right now. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility... wait, actually I should rewrite this based on the provided text which contains a URL and some info about someone else's experience, but my task is to summarize or rephrase the content regarding compatibility. Let me adjust:

morgilroka: HL1 doesn't work with Windows 8. It used to work before though! My friend has it running fine on Windows 8.1 because they managed to get it working for them there.

Hanging around about a game called Half-Life that doesn't work with Windows 8. It used to run fine before, but now it's broken for me. My buddy has the same game and can play on his Windows 8.1 computer just fine. But he's still having trouble getting it running at all. So right now, he's playing on an old laptop instead.

Click Start button on your screen. Find a picture of that start button. Right-click on Computer and choose Properties. Go to Advanced system settings. Make sure you have permission as an admin, so give me your password if asked. Under Performance, click Settings. Select the Data Execution Prevention tab. Check Turn on DEP for all programs except these ones I pick. If a program isn't listed, click Add. Go to Program Files and find the .exe file name of that program. Click Open in the folder where it is. Click OK to start using the settings. You may need to restart your computer so the changes work properly.

GmanBOSS : "Open a system by clicking Start. Click the Start button picture on the right side of your screen, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. Go to Advanced system settings. You need admin rights if you get a password prompt. Type your password or confirm it here. Under Performance, go to Settings. On the Data Execution Prevention tab, click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except what I want to turn off. To turn off DEP for one program, check the box next to that program in the list and then press OK. If the program isn't listed yet, click Add. Go to Program Files, find the executable file (it ends with .exe), and click Open. Click OK, then click OK again on the System Properties dialog if it pops up, and finally click OK one more time. You might have to restart your computer for this to work." tried it, didn't work :/
