People say if you switch up to Win7 or better, some cool games or apps might stop working. If that scares you enough, just delete your current hard drive and start a new one with Windows XP.

How much memory do you have? Maybe it's just because you're running on a 64-bit version of Windows while the game only needs 32-bit.

If you're only running a program that needs 4 gigabytes of memory, you probably don't need to worry about the processor architecture at all. You can stick with x86 (which is the standard term for computer systems).

If you only have 4GB of RAM, you probably need to use x86_64 instead of 32-bit. I'm using a game in full screen on my 4GB rig, but it's actually working with the 64-bit version.

If you only use 4GB of RAM, you probably need an older style computer called a 32-bit one. I'm running my game in full screen on my 4GB RAM, but it's actually a 64-bit version.

GmanBOSS: You might have a problem here. Windows 64 needs more than 4GB of RAM to work properly, which is why you aren't getting the full power out of your system. If you can get an x86 (32 bit) version, I'd suggest switching over because the game was mostly built for 32-bit computers back when Vista PCs and some XP versions were only 64-bit but didn't work well. Ask a friend what they're running on; it's probably just a 32-bit OS that makes sense for them. Some drivers are just too old to support 64-bit and haven't been fixed yet. My friend actually has the 64-bit version, and as I mentioned before, it worked fine on my computer back when it was new.
