Consider upgrading to a strong CPU such as the 4070 or 3080 for smoother gameplay at 1440p resolution.

The 14700K offers the best value compared to its performance. The Latek 265K may run faster but uses less power, making it a solid choice. Skip the i9 models.

14900k or 285K. For budget choices, 12600kf/12700kf look surprisingly affordable and offer good value, whereas motherboard components remain durable.

I had issues with AMD, so I'm switching back to Intel and using two boards across different platforms.

That's great to hear! You're using a 13th generation Intel i5 processor.

What do you really mean by bad timing? I’m assuming you’re referring to problems with AM4, so switching to Ryzen 3000 to 5000 would still be a good choice. There aren’t any major issues, and the only real downsides are the very cheap CPUs which aren’t AMD’s responsibility—they’re just not very efficient. People generally didn’t have any problems, even with overclocking. If you’re considering Intel, just keep in mind you might end up with a worse deal than what you could get otherwise.

Intel seems to be facing some platform challenges. Your experience with AMD has been similar. The main problem now involves the 13th and 14th generation chips being affected by a hardware defect. Intel has addressed it by reducing power usage and capping voltages. As long as your board runs a current BIOS and Windows has the microcode updated, you should be fine. It's unclear if this fix will last for many years. The Core Ultra 200 series on desktops isn't performing well—it's only marginally faster than the 14th gen and uses half the power. Plus, it doesn't offer good value compared to the overall platform cost. That’s why AMD is currently leading, especially for tasks like gaming where AMD holds strong positions in the top five CPUs. The 9950X also excels, handling multiple cores efficiently while using less power, and can be boosted further through PBO if needed.

14900KS with a fast RAM (7200+) will likely be the top Intel CPU. The 285K model is slower and doesn't offer much value. Intel needs some adjustments to prevent issues, but after optimization it usually performs well.
