I left the PC running for about an hour while downloading a game, then came back later. At that point, I started watching YouTube and noticed something strange happened around 5 minutes in—my system kept crashing and restarting. I assumed it was related to the GPU driver, so I thought about updating it, but even after installing the latest version, it would still crash. I managed to install it in safe mode, which seemed to fix the issue. I checked the drives and they looked fine on CrystalDisk. When I first tried to install a new driver, it reported a connection problem. I also attempted a Windows update at the same time, but it gave the same error. It might be connected to internet drivers, since it worked in safe mode without an internet connection?

Check the main PC for dual 980Ti in SLI setup. Test each card individually to identify any problems.

Updating now—just a 1080ti for the past few years. Played Borderlands 3 yesterday without any issues.

I mean, that's clearly a display issue. Check to make sure the card is seated properly, and that power connections are tight. Move the card to a different slot, see if that has any bearing. If you have an older GPU laying around, try using that to see if it's the 1080, or possibly slots on the board. (I have a low profile R5 220 that I grabbed for just this type of thing)

Seems like the GPU is likely down. Still, perhaps it’s just a port issue, as @NZKshatriya mentioned.

it seems like a dead card, but you can try these troubleshooting steps: - switch to a different PCI-E slot - change the port - use another display cable - try a different display, possibly a faulty port on the screen

I just transferred it to a different port and everything seems to be working properly. Running Furmark3D is fine now. It looks like the PCI-E slot isn’t perfect. Edit: possibly not ideal. Artifacts appeared again but disappeared, and Windows still functions.

It might be the PCI-E port on the card side, or there could be problems with the board. It's difficult to confirm without trying another functional card.

Definitely consider slowing down your GPU's speed if you aim to extend its lifespan. Open MSI Afterburner, reduce both "Core Clock" and "Memory Clock" to their minimum settings, and press "Apply." Maintain this adjustment for some time.

I need to bring this device back to where I purchased it since the 3-year warranty expires soon. If they can't fix this, it could cost me $100 in shipping and diagnostics.
