Some folks use the term LAN to describe a gathering of computers at a single location, similar to a car show but for tech devices.

LAN refers to a gathering where you connect via a local network. A LAN party involves socializing and gaming on the same network. The key idea is that in fast-paced games like shooters, low latency highlights genuine player ability.

LAN refers to a local area network, while WAN covers a broader geographic area. A LAN party is essentially a gathering of gamers who each bring their device—PC, console, or whatever—and engage in multiplayer games together. Usually they operate on a LAN, meaning they don’t connect to a single router but instead stay within their own network under the router’s control. This setup ensures no one is linked to just one central point.

It makes sense now. People actually played games connected through networks. It’s easier to understand. They probably just checked what others were doing on their machines over the internet.

LAN competitions are frequently broadcast on weekends via Twitch.tv. The Dreamhack summer event took place recently as well.

Hahaha I'm sorry. But are you news to PC's or just super young? LANs are the go to thing for PC gamers. They were really big in the 80's and 90's, still big. People would go to LAN Parties like 2 a weekend and they would just be a bunch of guys sitting in a room for hours on end drinking and yelling and laughing. I suggest going to one, they are great!
