My GPU is an RX 9070 and I'm searching for a CPU near $350 CAD.
I already have DDR4 RAM, but the prices don't justify upgrading to DDR5, which restricts my CPU options.
I currently have two 16GB modules at 3200MHz.
I need a CPU that can handle both esports and graphically demanding games like Monster Hunter Wilds and Cyberpunk at any settings.
I also want the CPU to be durable for a long time.
My current build is available here: https://ca.buildcores.com/builds/ZdRBW72Pk?share=true

To make your setup feel like a major upgrade, you’d need to upgrade from an i5-11400F to an i7. Check PCPartPicker for the most affordable i7 that fits without replacing the motherboard:
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu...ice&page=1
If it’s still within your budget, consider a used one. Also, find out how long the PSU has been running and its overall history.

I'm open to swapping out my PSU and motherboard, but I won't use an 11th generation Intel CPU.

You might consider investing a bit more for an Alder/Rocketlake motherboard. 14700k (470) is feasible, while 12700K (380) is another choice but requires an additional 90 CAD for the 14700k. The extra cache and cores will enhance durability. Boards typically begin around 150.
Ryzen offers more affordable options, yet the top recommendation is the 5700X3D, available from 455. Even a standard 5700X (316) paired with a board would exceed 400 CAD.
B650N isn’t ideal for power supply needs. A modest power supply would work well with the 5700X.
Montech Century II provides good value for a PSU.

To compare the 14700k and 12700k with DDR4 versus the 5700X3D, you'd need to evaluate their performance in that specific configuration.

In gaming it's tough to distinguish between various models like 7600X/7700X/14600K/14700k/5700X3D and 9070, depending on the game and resolution. More strain tends to go to the 9070. The 9800X3D is the only one that performs better, offering up to 10% more FPS under suitable conditions. The 12700K is a bit lighter but still functions adequately; it wasn't something I'd purchase right now, though I recently bought a 12700KF at a low price. I use a 14700K with DDR 4000 and have no issues.

I'm using Intel...all below the line feels like a waste of time because it's assumed I'm on AMD. I wouldn't choose Intel. Go with AMD instead. Built-in on-die memory controller...unfortunately, the DDR5 situation makes AM5 out of your budget...so you decide.

I have two choices: spend $370 on a 5700x3d or purchase a 14600kf. The latter would require DDR4 memory, but if DDR5 becomes more affordable later, I could get it for the 14600kf. For now, I’d need to stick with DDR4.

The reluctance toward the 11th generation Intel stems from budget constraints. A used 11700K on eBay would fit within your limits. Comparing it to the current i5 11400F shows differences in performance metrics. Purchasing both a new motherboard and processor could exceed your budget. For demanding visual experiences, consider upgrading your graphics card. To determine if your system is CPU or GPU constrained, run a benchmark test. Adjusting game settings can reveal whether your graphics card is the bottleneck. An increase in FPS suggests sufficient CPU power for better graphics, while stability implies CPU limitations.

%1 key distinctions between the 5700X3D and the 5800x.
I am based in the UK, so the 5800x is priced at 176 pounds.
The 5700X3D isn’t available here, which means purchasing it would require a mid-range GPU for that budget.
AM4 5800X3D now cost more than twice what the flagship Am5 9800X3D did, unless you manage to locate the 5800X3D.
On my Am4 system I run the 5800x alongside my older 3060 12GB. I keep it as a backup in case the Am5 becomes obsolete before the AI market cools down.
Currently there are just five chips above the 5800x on Am4.
It’s not worth spending on premium Am4 chips—they’ll be extremely expensive.
I purchased my 5800x for 130 pounds during Christmas 2024. The same chip is now available for 176 pounds. Demand for Am4 chips is rising, and many can’t afford to upgrade to the Am5. I personally made the switch when I bought my DDR5 in early November last year. The signs were clear. I heeded the advice and bought the DDR5 before anything else.
