I'm interested in your setup with the RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 7600. I currently have this configuration and haven't noticed any significant bottlenecks. I only play games, not for rendering or anything similar, and it seems to work well. I only watch 1440p. If I were to upgrade, what would be the most affordable option and how much would FPS improve? I ran a Cyberpunk 2077 test yesterday using the "out of box preset" - ULTRA, with FSRC enabled. I achieved an average of 146 FPS, and 110 as the lowest. This performance is quite similar to high-end CPUs that cost three times more.
These two options present clear choices: 7800X3D or 9800X3D. In short, the 7600 is fairly recent, and its cores are quite fast. Some games could benefit from more cores, though they usually don’t depend heavily on graphics. The additional cache in X3D chips should boost maximum FPS and lower frame rates by about 1% in many titles.
the top cpu for gaming should have at least 8 cores, focusing on performance cores rather than E cores, high ghz, and an l3 cache. the best option is an x3d chip, though there might be issues reported recently. just keep waiting.
