Based on the available hardware, it seems reasonable. The Steam Survey for last month shows that only around 20% of gamers have at least an RTX 2060 or better—any RTX, a GTX above the 1070 Ti, or an RX card above the 5600XT. Other options will likely struggle to run modern games at high settings over 75fps at 1440p, and probably won’t reach 144fps at 1080p without lowering the settings. A frame rate of 100 is likely the best balance for most people these days, as cards like the GTX 1060, GTX 1650, and RX 580 can actually hit it with high settings at the most typical resolution of 1080p, which remains at 67%.

It's interesting to think about what caused that issue. HZD was a PS4-only title designed for 1080p30, and even after updates for PS4 Pro, it still ran at 30fps. It seems they struggled to achieve 60fps on PC, possibly making the final version behave oddly at its intended frame rate.

I prefer a good mix of high performance and smooth 70-80 fps. I’m okay with 60 if it’s very stable, especially for games that look stunning—even if I skip some visual effects to hit over 100 fps on certain titles. Generally, around 70 fps feels solid for me, and that’s sufficient as long as it stays consistent. I only ever use 1440p, so that’s something to consider. If I switch to 1080p, I could adjust the graphics or frame rate for better results. But once I’m on an ultra wide 1440p screen, I can’t go back to 1080p.

Be honest, 60fps at 2560x1600 works well for me.

Panel speed is set to 75 Hz, which is my goal. While some titles don’t always reach that level, what works varies by game. Certain games like Control offer very consistent frame rates, making them smooth even at 45 fps with full graphics and ray tracing in 1080p without DLSS.

I don't have a dedicated FPS target. I just aim for a seamless feel. If this means pushing the game to 144 FPS, that's what I'm after since my monitor's refresh rate is that. The gap between 1440p and 4K isn't significant enough to justify the costs. When titles start using true 4K textures, I might consider upgrading. Honestly, I can't spot much difference in most recent games between 1080p and 1440p, except perhaps a few. Regarding ray tracing, I'm excited about the news but still lack the GPU to try it out. With the EVGA GTX 1070, it's usually smooth or very smooth, and it functions well except for Cyberpunk where each new patch drops performance.
