Overclocking comes with no assurances. The components vary widely. Asus has evaluated hundreds of Haswell CPUs to support auto-tuning efforts. The manufacturer notes that Intel’s latest models offer slightly reduced overclocking potential compared to Ivy Bridge. More significantly, Haswell shows greater inconsistency between chips, particularly in the voltage ranges needed for optimal performance.
Among the tested processors, 70% reached 4.5GHz, 30% achieved 4.6GHz, and 20% hit 4.7GHz. Just 10% maintained stability at 4.8GHz. The main challenge appears to be heat management; Asus advises using a dual-fan water cooler to avoid thermal throttling above around 4.5GHz or at voltages near 1.25V. Exceeding 1.35V seems to cause issues even with high-end coolers.
As mentioned before, you'll need to test to determine the results. I suggest doing it gradually. I use a Haswell chip that runs at 5Ghz with a VCore of 1.28, and it works well. Some people even manage to reach 4Ghz with a VCore of 1.35, though that's pushing the limits for Haswell. You might also want to explore non-closed loop configurations—it adds a bit more cost but could be worthwhile. I have an XSPC kit (refer to the notes) and plan to experiment with optimizing my setup to see what performance gains are possible.
I'm among those who face bad luck. Achieving 4.2Ghz at 1.30V.
running smoothly at 4.9 GHz with 1.25v :3 that's awesome XD
with some tweaking I could hit 5.1ghz
I am thinking about purchasing a CPU cooler and need to know how high I can push it with the h110 extreme and the kraken x60 while maintaining safe temperatures of at least under 80 at full load. Are there any superior watercooling options for the CPU? Thanks in advance.
