I liked it, though it started to feel a bit repetitive over time. Still, it was visually appealing with great locations and engaging imagery. The world seemed vibrant with life, and the narrative was solid enough. It was definitely a standout moment in the series. Valhalla appears to follow a similar pattern.
I tested it on an i7 8086k with an EVGA XC. Initially I attempted 4k, but the Noctua NH-D15 and EVGA XC were too loud, so I switched to my ultra wide (3440x1440) display. Power consumption was much higher in this game than in others, hitting nearly 600 watts at 4k versus about 550 watts on the ultra wide. I still save these games for stress testing and bench work. I played without fast travel since it’s an exploration title, which helped me gather resources along the way so the experience stayed engaging rather than repetitive. I believe upgrading from a 2080 Ti to a 3080/3090 isn’t worthwhile for 1440p playback. My EVGA FTW3 Ultras struggle at that resolution even with demanding titles like RDR 2, and all my RT games run smoothly there. My AC:O bench at 1440p averages around 81fps with high settings, so the 3080 isn’t a clear upgrade. It does surpass my 4k frame rate of 59fps slightly, but not significantly. Based on this alone, the 3080 isn’t an upgrade. A 3090 would only matter at 4k.
I liked the DLC because it added two new full stories that let me play alongside the main game, keeping things fresh. If you get bored or feel repetitive, switching to a DLC storyline works well. It’s great for those who want variety and want to avoid monotony.
