I really enjoyed it too. I kept clearing every question mark on the map. My first session lasted around 200 hours. After that, I felt disappointed it was over, so I tried a new game again. After two playthroughs plus all the DLCs, my character is now at level 99 and fully capable. I loved this experience. The world design and story were impressive. I just miss when I'm in the middle of a main quest and then suddenly removed from the animus. These games could still work well as standalone titles without the animus elements. The DLCs were also great.
I think it's a bit too much hype. It did improve on AC: Origins, but I couldn't really finish the main story because I was already really frustrated. So I just removed it instead of going through all the extra content. The narrative feels very shaky with many gaps, the characters don't seem realistic, the gameplay repeats endlessly and becomes dull fast, and the quest designs lack variety.
It's a pretty enjoyable game, but it could use some performance improvements. The main story is solid, while the DLCs are decent but not outstanding. Personally, I appreciate the move toward RPG/Mercenary elements instead of just the Assassin focus from the original titles. Even though this change made the modern plot feel somewhat irrelevant in this version, that's not my issue.
The AC stuff in "Origins" completely caught me off guard and really upset me. I haven’t played any of the earlier games, I’m completely confused about what animus means or who the characters are, and being thrown into this whole concept with no idea was super annoying. At least in "AC: Odyssey" I could have anticipated it, but even then I still don’t understand what’s going on, making it a really bad experience.
I believe it also counts whether you have an interest in Ancient Greece. I’m studying Classical History (Ancient Greece & Rome) and found it fascinating to see a fairly accurate portrayal of that era. Not to mention the visuals were outstanding even at maximum settings. While the quests felt repetitive, I played the DLC alongside the main game to add variety. Doing so gave me a balanced mix of missions. It was great to encounter notable figures from Ancient Greece like Herodatus and Pericles.
I also played AC 2 and then stopped all the matches until I tried Odyssey. I had no idea what was happening in the current timeline, and it just felt like I was pulled out of the main story.
I thought it was a great experience. Playing with an 8700K and 2080 Ti gave me around 85fps at full settings, but I can only guess how much less performance lower specs would have offered. The graphics were impressive—almost like time travel in today’s world.
