So it IS plugged into a surge protector to start I know somebody will ask that. So here's what's happening. It keeps trying to do the repairing PC thing, says the PC didn't start right, gives all the options, I tried resetting with keeping files that didn't work, I reset the cmos battery and that didn't work, so now I'm trying resetting again after resetting cos. I also did manage to run sfc scannow and it did say there was corrupted files that it " fixed " and wold be fine next reboot but I'm pressing F to doubt. Any ideas? If you need more info let me know.

Insert your OS disk and initiate a system repair. Keep an eye on the available options.

Your device likely saved data to the hard drive when power failed, causing some files to become damaged. If you need to protect vital information, it’s time to create a backup—unless you already have one. You can connect the drive to another machine or use a USB adapter. While you might attempt to fix Windows as suggested earlier, clearing and reinstalling it is probably a more reliable solution long-term. Remember to back up your important files! Good luck!

The USB install media represents the latest version of installation discs in 2025. It’s a good idea to make backups now before making any changes. There might be some corrupted drivers, so did you install a brand new Windows or were you trying to fix something?

I ran the reset with keep files feature and Windows accepted it. It got into Windows but no USB worked except for the mouse. I accessed the screen keyboard and opened Command Prompt; the sfc scan completed successfully and everything appeared fine. I restarted and was stuck in a repair loop again. My next step is to repair this once more to regain access to Windows, move all data onto a flash drive (if USB ports are usable), and then completely reinstall Windows without saving anything. If that doesn’t work, I might consider replacing the SSD or trying something else.

Installing fresh Windows removes all data, and they don't have their data backed up

Surge protectors offer simple safeguards, much like a bicycle helmet does. They shield against minor dangers such as lightning. Assuming a surge protector can manage it might be better to opt for a power strip or a direct wall connection.

Ensure your system has 11 Pro or newer. Navigate to Settings → System → Recovery and select "Fix Problems using Windows Update." (A recent update feature). Applied this on my machine without losing any data. It restored several settings and improved performance.

We managed to enter and retrieve the essential information. Two USB ports functioned correctly—mouse and USB drive worked on screen keyboard. We’re reinstalling now. It seems we should avoid gaming during storms. I didn’t realize SP couldn’t handle that; what’s the purpose of it then? Are these for handling minot surges in the power grid?
