Depending on rating they can protect against minor, moderate and even severe surges. Lightning falling on the power lines, nothing can protect against that. This is the stuff where the main electrical panel flies open and breakers literally jump out of the panel.

If you locate items that offer protection against lightning strikes—such as premium Belkin models—then proceed. Lightning moves quickly and comes in large numbers. Power strip shields tend to fail under heavy loads. The home wiring generally has higher resistance than most surge protectors, which is why fuses are designed to blow and reset automatically.

Usps provide benefits but don't fully safeguard against all risks.

Gaming during a storm can be secure, though it relies on your surge protector, wiring to your PC, the PC's power supply, and internal components. (For now, the older systems are sufficient.)

They mention this protective layer, similar to how a high-quality power supply protects a computer. Yes, you can store vital information on a separate drive or USB if space allows. Then move on to installing a fresh version of Windows.

It seems this was likely the most realistic option if Windows had updated it and we managed to preserve important files. Thanks everyone!
