The Radeon RX 7900 GRE is actually a great pick right now, especially if you want to play with overclocking your RAM. You might end up getting performance that's almost as fast as an RX 7900 XT or even the RX 9070 on its own. If not for those upgrades, then a 7800 XT is totally fine too.

Even though that memory has a slow speed limit on the QVL list, I'm pretty sure it'll work fast enough to run at 3600 MT/s because the motherboard supports it anyway.

The specs page lists Vermeer at $3,200. Support isn't available there. You can check if you want to get 3600 and buy that instead.

Thanks for sharing! I'm not very expert on how RAM works. From what I've seen on forums, the standard speed is usually 3200, but some people can get faster speeds like 3600 by turning a special feature called XME on and off. I've never done anything like this before and don't know exactly how to do it or why anyone would want to turn that feature on or off.

If the price difference between getting a kit at speed 3200 versus one at 3600 is about the same, should I just buy the 3600 version with XME turned on? Would there be any bad things happening if I get the faster speed but don't use that special feature? Honestly, I feel like I'm missing a lot of terms when people talk about these things.

Thank you for helping me out there! I am going to buy a new processor and some more memory next week. I'm thinking about getting the 9700GRE, but I might also hold off on that one in case the price of the 9070xt goes down.

Check out our return rules before you go, and take a look at what we have to offer.

Listen, I might be wrong, but my understanding is this: the specs page for the motherboard lists only the speeds officially supported by the Vermeer CPUs. If another CPU can get a QVL for 3600 MT/s, that means the board can handle it too. The main thing for stable memory support is the IMC on the CPU; since the 5000 series CPUs usually run fine with 3600 MT/s and this board can handle other CPUs better, I see no reason why a 3600 MT/s kit won't work either way. A 3600 MT/s will just run at 3200 MT/s anyway. Here is a 3200 MT/s kit and a 3600 MT/s kit. Good luck with the upgrade @robeeri2!

Sounds okay if you want to give it a shot.

The one thing I'd say about the 7800 xt is that it's a solid graphics card, but you won't get ray tracing or fsr 4 from it compared to newer chips. So it'll work well for now, but maybe it will age faster than cards like the 9070. If you're thinking of buying into that series though, you might find the new 9060 xt with 16gb acting as a cheaper option.

Thanks to everyone for all their help! Today the last piece arrived and I finished installing it. I used a ryzen 7 5700x3d, 32gb of ram at 3600 mhz (I enabled xmp in my bios), and an rx 9070 card because the prices were right for me back home. I tested this setup on Cyberpunk at high settings without ray tracing, and I'm getting over 120 fps easily. Even with some ray tracing turned on (but not maxed out or path traced) it's still consistently above 60 frames per second. No upscaling was used either, but since the fsr4 on my 9070 should do great things 🥳
