I recently returned to Windows Media Player Classic for better audio quality, especially since I experienced occasional choppy sound after switching to a USB AMP/DAC. Before that, the problem wasn’t noticeable. Now, WMPC reports rendering errors while playing video files, but works perfectly in VLC. It’s surprising how much clearer and crisper VLC’s videos are compared to VLC’s own darker output. I’m curious if there’s something missing in VLC’s settings that affects playback. I’ve tried adjusting it without success.

I don’t see any noticeable sound difference, but I’m open to another attempt and a blind evaluation.

Have you experimented with MPC HC alongside filters such as MadVR?

The video looks more vivid and crisp in WMPC compared to other players. I'm still figuring out how to match that look in VLC. I'll try again later.

I've always believed VLC's color scheme was quite precise, but that's just my personal view—not supported by any evidence.

Use MPC-HC for videos and foobar for audio.

I plan to try it, though sometimes MPC-HC reports issues with rendering. Files might still be downloading in bittorrent, or video files extracted from a split .rar using 7zip could cause problems. I haven’t had time to test the madVR suggested by another forum member yet.

You're asking if you're opening the compressed files directly from their original .rar or .7z files. You're also inquiring about any errors you encounter and why MPC-HC doesn't seem to handle them properly, even if they are broken.

MPC-HC earns my approval, offering better performance than VLC. Particularly in video picture clarity and 1080p playback.

I pull them out using 7z now. I no longer use WinRAR at all. Extracting files with WinRAR and playing them through MPC-HC hasn’t worked anymore. The video rendering issues seem tied to .avi files up to this point, unless they’re not .avi at all. I’ve set up MadVR, but I haven’t used a .avi file recently or encountered any problems so far.
