I completely don’t understand how Shadowplay manages to capture footage at 120fps. I haven’t used Fraps or Dxtory recently; I’ll assume they’re capable. I just managed to type in 120fps manually in Playclaw 5, and it worked, though the setting isn’t listed in its dropdown (5, 10, 15, 23.97, 24, 29.97, 30, 59.94, 60). I haven’t tried it on a game yet. Regardless, recording at that speed is quite challenging, especially with tools like Fraps, so I’m still doubtful about your friends doing it. Also, Tom’s hardware link appears to be broken.

I had a friend and I believe I might have been misleading them about that without realizing, though it's definitely possible to capture 120fps with certain programs. I was sure shadowplay offered that feature, but it only reached around 4k. Still, 120fps shouldn't be too difficult compared to that. Sorry for the confusion, buddy. Of course it's on CS:S if I had a 120hz monitor. I really need that Asus ROG Swift Aye.

Hehe there we go. One general word of advice: try not to say things as fact if you're only vaguely sure about it. That way no misinformation spreads and everyone stays cool about it . Anyway, the "extremely hard to record in 120fps" part was based entirely on the fact that recording drops your framerate, and the higher the resolution and the higher the framerate recorded at, the more the game resolution drops. You need a PC with MUCH more power than necessary to simply run a game at 120fps to actually manage recording at 120fps without experiencing framedrops, and also your hard drive has to support it.

Certainly, there are a few things to consider. Using third-party tools like Fraps or Dxtory can cause frame drops and make file sizes huge. But if something such as Shadowplay supports recording at 120fps, it would be smooth, high quality, and relatively small. Achieving those high frame rates is manageable on modern PCs, especially with a 120Hz monitor. I wish I could buy one because my 770 often exceeds 100fps on F4.

Audio issues are common, which affected the performance.
