It's likely the HLVR game that some developers discussed previously.

The part of "flagship" that resembles a tech demo is likely "flagship," which could hint at a demonstration or showcase. You might be considering The Lab, as it's another distinct title.

Valve didn't release Episode 3 as expected. Now, a decade later they're using the name to market their VR products. Fuck 'em. That's my take.

It's not just a demo. This will be a full-length game with a solid VR experience. Not limited to the Vive, actually. Valve aims for a strong VR headset and a thriving games scene connected to Steam. The more advanced PC VR is, the better it suits Valve. Their main revenue comes from Steam, and building a VR ecosystem there is another way to boost that.

i agree, but tbf the writing was kind of falling apart from the bit i could read into the backstory for HL3 team falling apart.  I thought the original writer had conflicts with bigwigs or something, and tbh he seemed even in HL2 like he was writing a sort of different game.
I know people love HL2 but to me i honestly thought they changed writers the first time i played it, it just never felt the same.  Atmosphere was decent, but all the important story-line tidbits got left out of the game and are facts you have to search for about on the net, important lore left unused, years after its release.  Things that would of been interesting to include, given its depth, but instead we got a crapload of uninteresting "how to" type dialogue or poorly acted out drama, where in the first game there was almost no dialogue, buckets of humor, but the story still made itself clear.

Nowadays, who truly values HL anymore? Or is it just home VR? It's been around for a few years already.

Another extremely enthusiastic opinion, it seems impossible to imagine such a large group of people who have grown up with these games are missing or haven’t even reached their 30s... Commercial availability doesn’t guarantee success. Recently, we’re witnessing truly affordable VR equipment for the first time. I remain doubtful about this new HL title being exceptional, yet I still can’t pinpoint the source of this unfounded criticism toward it.
