Hi, your win 8 key from /r/softwareswap is valid, but you can't just reuse it on another PC. The USB drive you downloaded will work only if you have the same exact key. If you need a different key for your friend's rig, you'll have to purchase one elsewhere.

You may set up Windows 8, but you’ll need a special product key first to begin the installation. These keys are widely available and simple to locate. Be aware that this key won’t automatically activate Windows; you must handle activation afterward.

This version won’t allow repeating the same key. The following update is a test release of Windows and requires activation to unlock its full features, which means turning off your current copy during setup.
