Hi, your win 8 key from /r/softwareswap is valid, but you can't just reuse it on another PC. The USB drive you downloaded will work only if you have the same exact key. If you need a different key for your friend's rig, you'll have to purchase one elsewhere.

The same drive is fine, but you’d need a different key for legal widows. That’s the process. If you need something more than once, you’ll have to pay again.

I don’t know the specific guidelines here, but if I weren’t purchasing another one, it would feel like the first time using it.

You may set up Windows 8, but you’ll need a special product key first to begin the installation. These keys are widely available and simple to locate. Be aware that this key won’t automatically activate Windows; you must handle activation afterward.

This version won’t allow repeating the same key. The following update is a test release of Windows and requires activation to unlock its full features, which means turning off your current copy during setup.

Certainly! To ensure everything works smoothly, you’ll need a fresh key. However, you don’t have to make a new boot drive—just insert your current one and add the new key to enable it.
