Yes, it does attempt to use only one RAM slot. I’ve tested this with a single stick, mainly because I’m also running some GPU tests. It’s currently around 1200 MHz, which is lower than the 2266 MHz I have with my Hyper-X Fury 16GB kit.

Seems I solved the problem. My memory model (CMK16GX4M4A2400C14R) isn’t compatible with 8-dim configurations on this board, as noted on the Asus memory support page for this model. I wasn’t sure such a reference existed.
